Sakawarga Indonesia Named Global Finalist for AI Innovation in Climate Resilience
Jakarta, Indonesia – 17 October 2025 – Yayasan Sakawarga Indonesia is proud to be named one of 15 global finalists in the TECH4Resilience Challenge, organized by the Global Resilience Partnership in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Trafigura Foundation. ... This recognition celebrates Sakawarga’s commitment to using technology for public good, empowering Indonesian communities to become more resilient in the face of climate and disaster risks. Building on the success of the Internet Resiliency Project in Sukabumi, which connected remote villages and trained volunteer disaster teams, Sakawarga developed E-CBAT, an AI-powered chatbot that helps communities prepare and respond to disasters independently.
Hosted on AtmaGo, a citizen platform with over 10 million users, E-CBAT turns local wisdom and community-generated data into real-time guidance for disaster simulations, SOP access, and risk mapping. The tool demonstrates how artificial intelligence can strengthen not replace local knowledge and solidarity. As a finalist, Sakawarga joins a global network of innovators that will receive mentorship, visibility, and investor-readiness support from GRP and its partners. Winners, to be announced at COP30, will each receive up to USD 50,000 to scale their impact. Beyond competition, this milestone represents a shared commitment: that technology must serve the public good and strengthen people’s capacity to act on climate risks.
In Sukabumi, where Sakawarga has piloted digital community networks, the results are already visible from improved early warning communication and local disaster preparedness, to new opportunities for digital livelihoods that reduce economic vulnerability. These are the building blocks of resilience that AI can enhance when used responsibly and inclusively.
“Being selected among global innovators affirms our belief that resilience begins at the community level,” said Alfan Kasdar, Executive Director. “Through AI and collaboration, we want every village in Indonesia to have equal access to knowledge, connectivity, and preparedness.”
As Sakawarga continues the TECH4Resilience journey, this innovation is expected to reach more communities across Indonesia. May it inspire stronger partnerships and help every village stand resilient powered by local knowledge and supported by technology.
